- Sunday, July 21st, Sails and Whales; Departing from the Mansons Public dock at 10:30, we will head out to explore the waters around Marina Island and Sutil Channel on the west side of Cortes. This area is often frequented by humpback whales in the summer time and we will seek them out with friendlier intentions than the schooner Kate of the Dawson Whaling Company which was based out of Whaletown in the 1860s. We hope to raise sail, see First Nations pictographs and stop for a low tide walk on a sandy beach before returning to the Mansons dock at about 4:30 p.m. for possible ferry shuttle. Run in conjunction with Cortes Days to give folks something to do on Saturday. Price $130 plus GST.
- Friday, August 2nd, Desolation Sound: Depart Cortes Bay at 10:30 a.m., returns about 5 p.m. Price $130 plus GST.
- Sunday, August 18th, Cassel Lake Waterfall: Leave Squirrel Cove at 10:30 a.m. and head north through Lewis Channel to Teakerne Arm.
We will view the waterfall then anchor off and walk to the lake. The walk is on a steep and rocky trail for the sure-footed. Along the way are some interesting artifacts from logging. The swim rocks at the lake are steep but fun. Up and down Lewis Channel, we have good potential for sailing, and we may have time to poke into the inner Squirrel Cove before returning to the dock at about 5 p.m. for ferry shuttle. Price $130 plus GST.
- Friday/Saturday, August 23/24, Blind Channel Dining: Depart Whaletown at 10:00 a.m. and head north to catch the ebb tide through Beazley Passage and the Okisollo Rapids and into Johnstone Strait. Passing Chatham Point, we’ll head into Mayne Passage between the Thurlow Islands to our overnight destination at Blind Channel Resort. The Cedar Post Restaurant is well known for its dining. http://www.blindchannel.com/fine-dining. There are 3 cabins at the resort, each with 2 bedrooms with double beds. Interesting trails lead to some nice old growth trees there. The next day we will depart by 9 a.m. and catch the morning flood through the Dent and Arran Rapids to return to Whaletown about 5 p.m. Dolphin, porpoise and whales frequent the tidal rapid areas and we will keep our eyes open.
