By Odette Auger – An invitation to visit Cortes ~ an innovative invitation, to experience incredibly beautiful Cortes Island !
That was the idea… and in true Cortes spirit, the idea grew and blossomed into a vibrant, creative, and engaging project. Brainstorming… We could have a basic, ready made in China cart… or we could have a stationary wood built centre… or we could gather skill, talent and vision into our unique mobile visitor’s kiosk !
David Rousseau stepped up and with his good spirited energy, vision and artistry, the kiosk design was born. On an island filled with craftsmen, we had no shortage of choices to enlist… except when you consider how busy local woodworkers are! We were fortunate to have Eli McKenty’s careful consideration, quality worksmanship,Randy Iris’ gorgeous painting and Jim Kearny and Garvin Morris’ fine woodworkin. We now have a shining, colourful mobile kiosk waiting to be unveiled at Cortes Day !
There are still many steps to go before this visitor’s kiosk travels~ to Campbell River ferry terminal, and points in between. We are hoping to generate community conversation and input at Cortes Day- with examples and ideas to share.
As a magnetic steel structure, we can have magnetic large format photos highlighting the natural beauty of our Cortes… we can have alternating seasonal theme photo displays, we can have trail maps and lists of services/accommodation…solar power potential means we could have slideshows of our cortes- folk, talents, and interesting projects.
The potential to engage in an interactive manner is exciting ! We hope to see you all at Cortes Day, come share your ideas of what this kiosk could contain-showcase-illustrate !
