I was trained as a photojournalist - I graduated with a Diploma from Western Academy of Photography in 2009 and went on to work for weekly newspaper in Victoria. Soon enough I was shooting my colleague’s weddings on the weekends. Being entrusted as the memory keeper-documenting, and combining that documentation with the art of light, exposure, composition - has been overwhelmingly fulfilling. But I’m still a photojournalist at heart.
Darshan and I became a team in 2012, shortly after we fell in love and decided to build a life together. I have always been passionate about the visual arts and photography in particular, so it couldn’t have been a better move for me to become a wedding photographer. When I discovered that wedding photography could actually be a vehicle for creative expression and serious art, I was hooked.
The Gathering Place Trading Company
Gathering Place is our family business on Cortes Island, BC. We live in community and work toward a more sustainable world everyday. We source organic teas, spices, sea salt and dried fruit directly from family farms and co-operatives in Canada and around the world. We meet every one of our partners face to face, shake their hands, and visit their farms so that we can deliver the freshest, tastiest products directly to you from the farmers who grew them. We donate 1% of our sales to local grassroots projects, preserving our forests and oceans, as well as to children in need in India and South Africa.
Gathering Place Rooibos comes direct to us from a third generation family farm deep in the Cederberg Mountains of South Africa. Our rooibos is grown naturally in the delicate semi arid ecosystem, using swales and other innovative techniques for water and soil conservation, and is exclusively hand harvested. These values combined with stringent fermentation, sorting, and drying processes, create the exceptionally high quality of this certified organic Rooibos tea.
